Usable Space is pleased to present the THE WAITING ROOM, a two-person exhibition of new work by Milwaukee-based artists Sean Heiser and Jenna Youngwood.

The opening reception for the exhibition will be May 5th from 6 until 9pm, with a performance at 8:30 in the Usable Space courtyard by Milwaukee artist Kenneth Sabbar, performing as Dead Pawn.

Most familiar as liminal spaces, waiting rooms constitute a particular frame of mind, characterized by introspection, anxiety, and boredom. Thoughts become casually strung together in moments of passing time, as the mind occupies the present by anticipating the future. THE WAITING ROOM explores that state as a potential metaphor for making, and as a representative of the developing studio practices.

Youngwood’s work uses a repetitive and appropriation-based strategy of painting that considers the potential of boredom as a strategy to generate form, meaning, and presence.

Sean Heiser’s paintings consider the structure of the window, both as a physical object of containment, and as an agent of transition from one situation into another.
